The template for the slide show is in Google Classroom.  
You need to have at least the following in the slide show....

1. Ten or more slides
2. All slides need a background
3. Pictures throughout the slideshow
4. Title, Intro at least three paragraphs, conclusion.  Basically it a five paragraph essay on a slide show.
5. Interesting facts
6. Define things such as the type of volcano and the types of lava associated with it.
7. Map of where the volcano is located.
8. Diagram of the eruption.

Make sure that any picture you put in your report is of you volcano.

Have fun.  Presentations start on Thursday!

Continue researching your volcano.  After that you need to organize your information into at least three paragraphs. Each paragraph need to have a topic sentence followed by details that support it.  Tomorrow we will put this information into the slide show format.  No bullets or random sentences.  You should be telling an organized story about your volcano.

1. Find your volcano on Google Earth.  Where is it located in relation to plate boundaries?
2. What are the longitude and latitude coordinates for your volcano?
3. What are the details of it's most significant eruption? (what happened?)
4. What were the long term affects of the eruption? How did it impact the earth, the people and crops?
5. Why is this volcano famous?
Is it dormant, active or extinct?  How do you know?
6.  Other interesting details!!

Start today off by reading the Key Science concept in text with notes.  It is also on pages 338-339 in the textbook.  Study the pictures!!  Next I will have you pick a famous volcano out of a container.  This will be your topic for a volcano report.  Today you will READ and take general notes about your volcano.  Do not start the slide show until I put a template in google classroom. Start with the article in Wikipedia about the volcano. Then search other sites for more information.  You need to become an expert on your volcano because you will be presenting your report to your group in order to teach them about your volcano.  Have fun!  Eric, your volcano is Mt. Pelee and Marco yours is Mt. Vesuvius. 

You will have today and tomorrow to create a Geo Bulletin poster to warn communities about natural hazards they may face. Use the maps and data from investigation !.  Use the questions on page s 5 and 6 to guide your thinking. Identify areas of high, medium and low risk for earthquakes and volcanoes. Explain how you used data to identify each area.  Your poster should be colorful and alert people to the hazards of earthquakes and volcanoes around the globe. Have fun and be creative. Tomorrow at the end of class you will present your poster to your partner.

Unit 9  Volcanic Eruptions and Earthquakes Today you will do the readings that go with the first investigation.  They are in text with notes and labeled Section 1 and Section 2.  In the textbook they are on pages 330-333.  You will fill out page three in your packet.  Make sure you understand the info.  Reread if needed.

After watching a tutorial on longitude and latitude you will continue to plot the earthquakes and volcanoes on the maps in your packet.  We will use this information later when you do a project for this lesson.  Work with you partner to make accurate maps.  The maps need to be complete by Monday as we move forward with the lesson. 

Today we start Unit 9 Lesson 25 in TCI. We will be studying Earth's Natural Hazards.  Our assignment today is in class and we will be plotting the major earthquakes in 2016 on a world map.  We will work on this packet until Thanksgiving Break.

1. No gum chewing at school. All of the teachers are going to crack down and enforce this policy.  Today is an amnesty day, which means you can spit out your gum right now with no penalty.  After today you will get a detention.  You don't want your first detention to be for chewing gum!!

2. Observe the crystal growth in the front of the classroom. Record your observation and draw a picture in the spaces on pages 4 and 5 in the packet. 

3. Complete the lesson game for Lesson 11.

4. Study for the test tomorrow.  You should reread the sections and study the vocabulary words.

1. Investigation 2.  We will start the investigation by growing crystals and starting pages 4 and 5.  We will observe their growth everyday through Friday.

2.  Make up any work that isn't finished in your packet.  Not pages 6, 7 or 11.  We haven't done those yet. 

3. Research the phenomena on page 9.  The different Earth processes that we put on the space and time scale. 

4. Other homework or read a book when you finish.

Today we will compare different Earth processes. We will sort them by time and space.  You will need your packet and the gameboard that is on your desk. We will use this gameboard for all classes to please do not destroy it. This is investigation three in your packet.

Friday Film Festival.  Check Google classroom for the videos.  The Bill Nye video is only 16 minutes long so stop when you get to 16 minutes.  You will see the credits rolling at that point.  Take notes on both videos.  I drew a line on the paper so you wouldn't forget.  I'll pass out the papers when you are done watching the videos. Choose a famous scientist and read their biography.  After reading the story of their life write a summary, include their contribution to science. Complete as many as you can during the class period. Today we you will present your comic strip or storybook to the class. After you present bring your project to me and I will grade it.  If you do not present today you will lose credit for it being late. 

Please check your grade in Aeries.  There are a lot of missing assignments that need to be turned in.  The six week grading period ends on Friday. :)

Friday the 13th!!

Today you will use you knowledge of the water cycle and pages 240-241 in the textbook to make a model.  You will choose the type of model to make.  Either a comic strip story or a children's story book.  Either way you will tell the story of a character traveling through the water cycle. Your story must include at least three processes in the water cycle, words and descriptions of whats happening and colorful pictures.  Have fun with this and be creative.  On Monday you will present your story to the class. 

Today is reading day. I want everyone to listen to the readings with headphones on.  Then you can re-read when you answer the questions.  Make sure to click on vocabulary words to see the definitions.  The readings are 1,2,3,4, in the water cycle lesson.  The questions are on pages 3 and 4 in the packet. Remember to make sure you understand the reading and do a good job answering the questions.  Use the R.A.C.E.  strategy bookmark!!

At the end of the lesson game find the button that says final question and click on it,  There will be 21 questions.  After the lesson game you will have the remainder of the period to make sure your packet is complete, finish it if it is not complete, then turn it in. Staple the handouts that we did to the back of the packet. 

Today we will review our results from yesterday and then move on to Investigation 3. You will need your packet, colored pencils and a pencil.
